Getting Your Sea-Doo Prepped

Getting Your Sea-Doo Prepped for the Summer

The weather is getting warmer, so it’s time to start thinking about getting your family and Sea-Doo prepped for the new season. We’ve put together some helpful tips and lists to make sure you are prepped for summer fun.

If you’re like most people, and you don’t have much extra time on your hands, then you would prefer to have the experts at Gull Boats & RV service and repair your personal watercraft for summer. If you prefer to DIY, we suggest using the following tips to help protect your Sea-Doo and make sure it is ready to ride the waves this summer.

If you are a little wary about what you are doing to your Sea-Doo, you can always consult the owner’s manual or contact your local Sea-Doo Dealer.

Spark Plugs

A good habit to form is to replace the spark plug in any vehicle you own every couple of years to ensure you won’t get stuck in the sun rather than being on the lake. If you haven’t taken a look, we suggest inspecting your spark plugs before the season to make sure you are good to go. If you do need to change, you can follow these tips or contact the Gull Parts & Service Department.

  1. Remove the seat or top (if SPARK model) to access the engine compartment.
  2. Disconnect and remove ignition coils.
  3. Using a standard 5/8-inch spark plug socket, remove the plug from the engine.
  4. Inspect the plug for excessive wear and change if necessary.
  5. Reinstall the plug (or new plug) taking care not to cross-thread upon re-installation.
  6. Reinstall and reconnect the ignition coils.

Get Charged

The owner’s manual of Sea-Doo suggests taking out the battery at the end of every season. So if you did that last season, it is time to get that battery charged for this season so your Sea-Doo will deliver the juice to ride the waves. Follow this guide to get your battery prepped for the summer:

  1. Remove the battery from your watercraft by disconnecting the negative cable, followed by the positive cable.
  2. Place the battery on a dry, level surface, and connect it to your battery charger.
  3. Most battery chargers on the market will tell you if your battery is faulty. If your battery charges normally, you can reinstall once fully charged. If not, it’s time for a new one. Contact Gull Boats and RV to shop for new batteries!

*TIP: Never charge or boost the battery while installed in the watercraft*

Inspect Sacrificial Anode

Don’t worry about the name, the anode is made to wear out. It should always be periodically pleasing to avoid any potential damage to your Sea-Doo. All it takes to check on this is a quick visual inspection. If the anode is more than halfway worn, it’s time to get a new replacement for it. Again, feel free to contact Gull Boats & RV for advice on how to take care of your Sea-Doo.

Inspect Wear Rings and Impeller

This is another thing that even novice owners can do alone. All you are checking for on the wear rings and impeller is any abnormal or excessive wear. Abnormal and excessive wear looks like deep scratches, nicks, or grooves that would not be on a brand-new part. A key sign of worn down parts is if there is any water intrusion in the engine compartment. If there is, then you should contact Gull Boats & RV’s Service Department for an assessment and service.

Wash, Shine, Protect

Showroom shine doesn’t just have to be at the showroom. Impress the crowd by giving your Sea-Doo a shine. There are plenty of products that can serve this purpose. Just remember to give your Sea-Doo a good wash before applying any wax, as waxing a dirty Sea-Doo can create the opposite effect.

Additionally, applying UV protection is always a good habit to form at the beginning of every season. This helps the Sea-Doo look pristine even years down the line!

Before your ride

Now that your Sea-Doo is prepped to ride the waves, it’s time for you to get prepped. We always suggest reading up on the owner’s manual at the beginning of every season to make sure you aren’t forgetting any important details about how to ride a Sea-Doo, especially if you don’t ride your Sea-Doo on a regular basis.

If you are looking for the right Sea-Doo to take care of, Head on over to Gull Boats & RV to see the best selection around.
